My son is Zohan.

Another day in my life came when my patience and curiosity was tickled by an unexpected circumstance brought by my son. Habang english yun ah.

I saw him with a big shears in his left hand and a handfull of hair in his right. I was shocked! Ran to his side and asked him "Anak, why did you cut your hair?"

He answered "Mommy, cut ko hair. Barber ako."

My heart sank. I was ready to shout but his honest answer slapped me in the face that it was not a good idea to shout cause he gave me the truth.

He wants to be a barber. So, I forced myself to smile. Told him, "Anak! Marangal na trabaho yan. Hayaan mo susuportahan kita."

I didn't know what happened there. What I did was look for his cap cause we have a family dinner that night.

I told them that they should rejoice cause Jazer wants to be a BARBER, marangal na trabaho. Everybody laughed, and looked at his hair... este poknat!

After a week, before his school starts, I decided to bring him to a real Barber so they could professionally cut his hair. He was proud when he told Benjie (the barber) BARBER AKO eh.
Still wondering why every barber shop has this thing.

It's really supposed to be just a red stripe on a white pole.

Back in the olden days, barbers would also make a minor cut on their client's leg to let the "bad blood" out and keep them healthy.

The red stripe around the pole was supposed to let the customers know that the barber could also perform blood-letting, if they so required it.

Even though the practice has waned, barber shops still carry the sign today, albeit with variations.

I love your blog, AA. It's very real, very interesting, very honest.

Kisses to Jazer & Ailey! :P
